Afgelopen woensdag waren wij te gast in de Tweede Kamer bij VVD lid Sven Koopmans. Sven Koopmans is in het verleden vredesonderhandelaar geweest in Syrië en daardoor al bekend met de Assyriërs in het Midden-Oosten. Tijdens het gesprek hebben wij verhalen verteld over de huidige situatie van de Assyriërs in Noord Irak en Syrië. De Assyriërs worden namelijk onderdrukt door de Koerden.
Wij vroegen de VVD om druk uit te oefenen op het parlement, in de hoop dat zij voorwaarden stelt aan de hulp die zij de Koerdische regering biedt. De Koerden dienen de basisrechten van de Assyriërs te respecteren.

Last wednesday we were invited to the Dutch parliament by VVD member Sven Koopmans. Sven Koopmans used to be a peace negotiator in Syria, therefor he was already familiar with the situation of the Assyrians in the Middle East. During the conversation we told him stories about the current situation of Assyrians, particularly those who live in North Iraq and Syria. The Assyrians in our homeland are being oppressed by the Kurds.
We asked the VVD party to pressure the parlement to set conditions to the aid the Dutch parliament gives to the Kurdish government. The Kurds need to respect the basic human rights of the Assyrians.
